Lyrics from lifeblood.net (http://www.lifeblood.net/songs/athruz/idontwannaknow.html)

well you followed me this far
did you find out what's inside
can you tell me what i'm doing
is it something i should hide
i don't know for sure
i don't wanna find out what i left there for

i'm not scared and i'm not lonely
saving all my money or my breath
i'm not looking for an answer
or anyone to second guess no

you told me all your secrets
and i filled you up with lies
now i'm living honestly
because i said goodbye
i can't go home anymore
i don't wanna find out what i left there for

i'm not scared and i'm not lonely
saving all my money or my breath
i'm not looking for an answer
i'm not asking anyone to second guess

i was losing all my senses
i was losing all control
it was getting so offensive
now you want me back for more
and i just won't go

if you think you know the answers
you've got a lot of gall
cause it gives you satisfaction
knowing nothing at all
i don't care anymore
and i don't wanna find out what i left there for
what i left there for

i'm not scared and i'm not lonely
saving all my money or my breath
i'm not looking for an answer
i'm not asking anyone to take a second guess no

i'm not scared and i'm not lonely
saving all my money or my breath yeah
i'm not looking for an answer
i'm not asking anyone to take a second guess no
take a second guess yeah
take a second guess yeah
(hey)
take a second guess yeah
(hey)
take a second guess yeah
take a second guess
(i can't talk to you)
take a second guess
(yeah, yeah i know)
take a second guess
(well i gotta go okay)
take a second guess
take a second guess
(over one billion served)
take a second guess
oh yeah

has that 'early IG' sound---me likes it when it pops on to bounce around to, though not a classic to me---? re Michelle Malone though--saw her open for them last year in SD and LA, so clearly they're still friends--they didn't play this song in the set though even though she was there, which I was sort of expecting/hoping...do they sometimes play it still when she's around w/ them, or is it out of rotation for years now?

When IG played Central Park Summerstage in 2003, Michelle Malone opened and joined them onstage for "I Don't Wanna Know." That show kind of ruined IG for me because Michelle played on a bunch of their songs and she made them all so much better! According to Lifeblood, they haven't played that song since late 2003 (and they played it at pretty much all the shows where Michelle opened for them), but there have only been about 5 shows since then where Michelle joined them on stage at all.

Q, I remember that time well--seeing Michelle and the Low Down GA Review play all over the NY Metro area and rock so hard and still only have like 15 people in the audience. I never thought about it in the same way, but I feel the same way about seeing IG live now sans Michelle as you--she really made the show so much more interesting. In fact, after she and her band finished their set I remember a friend of mine (who wasn't really an IG or MM fan prior to then) saying that she didnt see the need for a main act after MM.

Also, and maybe there's a story I don't know, but why hasn't MM played with IG for a while? I used to see them together a lot and I was thinking it was because they were letting other folks who had new albums out tour with them when she was in between records, but now that Sugarfoot is out it's kind of strange that she hasn't appeared with them. Any info...?

PS. I think I Dont Wanna Know is a great, simple, fun song and I even think it's the best on Strange Fire. One reason I don't like that album much is that the songs are so overly-earnest and heavy-handed in their imageries and IDWK is a kind of breath of fresh air amidst the 'Strange Fires' and the 'Hey Jesuses'. Also, I'm partial to IG's country sounds it's true....

I love "I Don't Wanna Know." I always wonder what Amy and Michelle were referring to though. I always think the lines: "Can you tell me what i'm doing, is it something i should hide" refers to being gay/coming out...but I have no idea.

she really made the show so much more interesting.

I never had a chance to see MM play with IG. The first time I saw MM, she was opening for IG but they didn't make it there because of bad weather/roads. Going along with what you are saying, I was blown away by MM's performance. She's a great musician and it's a shame she doesn't get more exposure. I'd love to see her play with IG someday.

I don't have any info...but maybe it will still happen. Hope so.

I Don't Wanna Know is a great live, rough-and-tumble kind of song. I absolutely love the version on 1200 Curfews.

I think the Strange Fire recording lacks a bit of the sparkle, though, and since that's the one we're rating, it's a 4 from me.

Definitely prefer the 1200 Curfews version, and not just for the 'I don't care either' gag. The fiddle really adds to the atmosphere too...
I agree that it stands alone on its parent album in being a bit less intense sounding - sounds like it is a lot of fun to play.

I rated it average - Amy has many songs that impress me more. Strange Fire, for example, just to pick one off the same album.

Hey All,

I newly joined just to talk about this song.

I first heard it on Curfews and it was the interaction between the three of them that made it one of my favorites. Especially the "I don't care either" that one of them throws in there.

It got me to pick up my first Michelle CD, even though it was used - and I had the nerve to have her sign it later.
And I gotta agree that IG is much more fun with MM - but I'm extremely biased too.

I like the StrangeFire version too with Michelle talking towards the end of the song. I heard or was told that this was written at the same time as Circus Circus, another favorite MM song.
