Lyrics from lifeblood.net (http://www.lifeblood.net/songs/athruz/ourdeliverance.html)

now we can say
that nothings lost
and only change
brings round the prophecy
well now it's melting
the solid frost
was once a veil on greener landscapes
we would see
beneath my surface
the water's heating
and steam comes up and out the tears
you see me shine
for every strange and bitter moment
there was never a better time

for every pleasure
exacts its pain
how you hurt me
how you were good to me
beneath my window
a mournful train
that makes me smile
at my bad poetry
but beneath my surface
a song is rising
and it may be simple
well it hides its true intent
we may be looking for our deliverance
but it has already been sent

it's in the night fall
when the light falls
and what you've seen
isn't there anymore
it's in our blind trust
love will find us
just like it has before

they're sending soldiers
to distant places
x's and o's
on someones drawing board
like green and plastic
but with human faces
and they want to tell you
it's a merciful sword
but with all the blood
newly dried in the desert
can we not fertilize the land with something else
there is no nation
by god exempted
lay down your weapons
and love your neighbor as yourself

it's in the night fall
when the light falls
and what you've seen
isn't there anymore
it's through our blind trust
love will find us
just like it has before

I love the message of this song, and she conveys it beautifully.

One of my favorite Emily songs of the last decade. Definitely a 4 - and nearly a 5 - for me.

One of my favorites off Become You, and is a "memory" song for me. Love it! :)

I remember reading that Emily was to perform at a demonstration at Ft. Benning sometime in the past few months, and I thought to myself this would be the perfect song for her to sing... and sure enough, this is the song she sang. The imagery of the toy soldiers, yet with human faces, and the anger/pain you hear when she sings, "Can we not fertilize the land with something else" - the first few times I heard this I had listen to the song over again because I was so affected by both the line and the conviction in Emily's voice. I'm still affected.

Pain and hope - it amazes me at times how well they go together, and I love how Emily weaves them together in this song, not just in terms of war, but the personal connections - the "blind trust that love will find us" - even if it "isn't there anymore."

A solid 4+ for me.

The line "There is no nation, by God exempted" is so powerful. It gives me goosebumps.

I gave it a 3. The song has powerful meaning - Ill give it that. But I hate the compostion of this song - the entire melody of it and the entire sound. And I get tired of the overabundance of political and religious messages sometimes.

This is a song I usually skip.

i was just writing about this song in another thread.

"our deliverance" is really the only emily song that i like on become you. as i said in that other thread, given the time that it was written (and was performed on the BY tour) i think it is really powerful. this is emily's only song on become you that i do not skip when i'm actively listening and it comes on shuffle.

i LIKE it, but i don't LOVE it. for me, it falls somewhere in the 3+ or low 4. since that isn't an option, i am going to give it a 3 as well.

xoxo
