I'm starting a new activity on Vortex. It's the song of the week! I've generated a randomized song list alternating between Amy and Emily songs. The list is only from album releases minus any covers. That's enough for 2 years and 3 months. When a new album comes out, I'll just shuffle them into the list of remaining songs.

This week's song is Dairy Queen (http://indigovortex.com/index.php?pg=song&t=534&pp=10) from the album All That We Let In (http://indigovortex.com/index.php?pg=album&t=387)

Discuss it, rate how you like it on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. (You can also rate any of the songs in the Discography (http://indigovortex.com/index.php?pg=album) section of the site anytime you want.) If you tabbed the song you can also post it in this thread if you like.

*For these threads please keep the topic related to the song.

Words and music by Amy Ray

I heard that you were drunk and mean
down at the Dairy Queen.
There’s just enough of you in me,
for me to have this sympathy
and take it in stride.
I know I had mine,
and you were as kind,
I am told.

Ain’t it funny how we lose one day
and a lifetime slips away.
I’m looking back on us that way –
something I never thought I’d say.
I take it in stride.
I know I had mine,
it was good for a time,
I am told.

The love you gave was not for free,
but the price was truly fair.
I never felt so glad to be
so well spent and so beyond repair.
And I take it in stride.
At least you were mine,
if not for all time,
enough to hold.

Now take good care that you are true –
you said you found it hard to do.
And find that bit of faith that sets you free
from having everything to prove.
And you take it in stride
and know you’ve got mine,
and it’s good for a lifetime or more.
Hey I love you, I love you more and more.

Thanks Y'all

this is one of my favorites for sure!!! an Amy classic... I like some of the early boots with Amy alone.. sounds so raw you'd think she was making up the song as she we playing.

there are particular lines in it that really get to me.

yeah.. starts with heard you were drunk and mean and ends with I love you more and more... and so many more inbetween!

that's the kinda Amy songs I love

I've gotta go with RT. Five stars.

This and Tether are my favorites on that album, and while I have to be in a contemplative kind of mood to really appreciate Tether, DQ is great anytime.

5 stars. Love the reference to a "Dairy Queen" that great old downhome establishment.
And the performance on the DVD with that CD is one of my favorites.

Great song (and great thread idea!)---the first four lines of the song make it a classic to me--plus I love any song with the mandolin

I love this song....alot. I really liked Amy's early in person performances if it. She would get that intense, far off look in her eyes. And that little grin she gives when she sings "I love you more and more" is wonderful.

Four stars from me.

Boy, all y'all have really summed up what I was going to say. Great song! My favorite lines are:

"The love you gave was not for free, but the price was truly fair. I never felt so glad to be so well spent and so beyond repair."

love it,

I gave it a 5. A favorite of mine.

I definately enjoy this song more acoustic than with band.

She played this for the very first time live at a show I was at in Chatauqua, NY. You could hear Emily practicing her mandolin parts over and over again when we were standing in line.
